Lane assist

My TomTom (GO520) got a software upgrade yesterday, and seems to have gained three new features:
1. Kate now stutters
2. Kate now tells me she can’t find a faster route (IQ maps or something)
3. Lane assist
This last one is extraordinary.
It puts up a diagram of the lanes ahead with green arrows on the one you [...]

Gran Turismo

I’ve given up waiting for the full version of GT5 to come out on the PS3, so will just go back and play GT4 on the PS2 all over again.
It’s still a great game.

Audi Driving Experience

Yesterday, I went to Silverstone for the Audi Driving Experience.
Why? Well, Herman’s an Audi, and they invited me, and I thought it would be lots of fun. It was.
The day is a mix of fun and learning. You learn about grip, weight distribution, dealing with understeer and oversteer, and the limits of the car, and [...]

Wednesday

But it feels like Friday already - been a busy and tiring week; last week too.
Today is going to be very busy with already-planned interviews and the first day of the Lehman/Nomura merge, so half the day in the City and half in Canary Wharf.
Fortunately, I’ve got a long weekend coming up, with an Audi [...]

Snowdon

One of the aims of our holiday to Wales/North York Moor was to do some walking. I used to do this quite a bit when I was younger, but now I’m older, wider and far less fit, so the chances of walking up Snowdon was approaching zero.
Fortunately, the fine people of Wales built a steam [...]

Road weary

Over the last eight days, we and Herman have done 1206 miles, or over 150 miles per day.
That’s about a third of Herman’s total mileage now.
I’m tired, but happy to have done my first major road trip and a bit sad that I won’t be on the road every day for some time.

Home

The journey home wasn’t as bad as I thought.
We ignored the normal motorway-all-the-way-down route and instead headed toward the Humber Bridge, then on to Lincoln and only hitting motorways at the A1(M) and M11.
We hit a few torrential rain moments but otherwise was dry and traffic-free.
The Humber Bridge was particularly cool. Never seen it before.
Now home… and [...]

Heading home

Had been a splendid week off, in Wales and here in the North York Moors, but now heading home.
Unfortunately, we’re heading south through the storm heading north, so who knows how long it will take. Hopefully it will take no more than five hours.

Holiday in England and Wales

We’re on holiday next week, leaving tonight. It’s going to be a British holiday, partly in Snowdonia and partly in the North York Moors.
Of course, this means it’s going to rain constantly
But we do get to be away from cities and congestion, have a wander around some very pretty countryside and maybe even [...]

S-Tronic - In Control?

Earlier this year, I broke twenty-three years of habit and bought a car, known as Herman.
Why did I choose this car? Well the main driver, if you’ll pardon the pun, was the gearbox. Audi call it “S-tronic“, but it’s essentially a dual-clutch semi-automatic gearbox generally known as DSG with variants used in the Bugatti Veyron [...]
