Can’t you call the US one mountain lion? Anyway, there are a couple of puddytats not 25 meters from me who might argue the toss about one true pumas
I think you’re confusing our ‘Puma’ with an animal, but going with that, Mountain Lion or Cougar for the US might work, especially as many believe it’s endangered.
