I read with amusement/disbelief this article on The Daily Mash today.
Satire - yes. Factual - possibly.
Still, £42k for driving a truck does seem rather high compared to other jobs requiring more skill, more responsibility and better education.
I think that at the rate these people get pay rises, I’ll be able to retire from capital markets IT and drive a truck in a year or four.

supply & demand matey. There is a shortage of HGV drivers atm - always a good time to demand a pay rise when your services are not easily replaceable. Apply this principle to capital markets IT by writing unreadable code that works, wait a couple of years, and then demand more for maintaining it.
Not that anyone in IT would do such a despicable thing.
Jack - Everyone did that in IT and all it did was create a generation of developers who were able to hold together spaghetti code with string and bits of sticky tape while writing even bigger and better and more incomprehensible frameworks to replace the old stuff. No, what we need to do is shoot the idiots then go and charge a mint for replacing the crud with good code
… whilst driving a truck
