Last week, I met up with Tony and Pam (latter being one of the authors of the Retro Poetry).
Hadn’t see Pam for (I think) 11 years and Tony for maybe 10. Was really good to catch up after all this time.
Hopefully it won’t be another decade before seeing them again.
Went to Beachy Head again yesterday. Didn’t jump off this time either.
Again, a super drive down, and the Blackwall Tunnel wasn’t closed on the way back. Somewhat unsatisfactory food stop at the Birling Gap hotel (and obviously can’t drink), and a short wander around the cliff tops - clear out the cobwebs etc.
We didn’t spend [...]
I read with amusement/disbelief this article on The Daily Mash today.
Satire - yes. Factual - possibly.
Still, £42k for driving a truck does seem rather high compared to other jobs requiring more skill, more responsibility and better education.
I think that at the rate these people get pay rises, I’ll be able to retire from capital markets [...]
Actually, I think I did/do have man-flu.
Was particularly feverish and achy and sneezy this morning (at 6ish) and wife wouldn’t let me go to work, so spent a good proportion of the day in bed and am now feeling better, without the aid of too many drugs.
Will almost certainly go back to work tomorrow.
I don’t think I have man flu. Yet. Depends on how much sympathy I need, I suppose, but I do have a sniffle, headache, developing a temperature.. usual stuff.
But why? It’s summer. It’s fairly warm. I don’t know anyone else with any kind of disease. I was on a plane recently, so maybe caught something [...]
OK, so it’s actually called the iPhone 3G. Didn’t get a chance to visit either NYLON Apple Stores, but have since discovered they’re not available until July 11 and probably not from the Apple Store anyway.
Bit disappointed they haven’t done anything with video and front-facing cameras, or increased the memory capacity, but the price point [...]
Right, so the keynote is usually 10am SF time, so that’ll be 1pm Eastern, so give them time to rearrange the shelves…… so I reckon popping down to the Apple Store on 5th Avenue around 2.30pm?
Of course, no point buying one here, but would be nice to see it.
Then maybe swing by Apple Store Regent [...]
We’re in New York doing some shopping this weekend.
This is my fourth visit to the big apple and I think all the buzz has worn off.
Oh, the shopping is ok. Some things are definitely cheaper here, or more important, available - despite what the UK gov says on obesity, Americans are much bigger/fatter than Brits, so [...]
Way back in 1997, in the days before blogs, I had a personal website at goron.org (long lapsed).
I was browsing through an old archive of it and thought I’d re-post some interesting pages.
Here’s one:
This poem was written on a fridge (refrigerator) using a set of magnetic words and word endings, e.g. “quick”, “old”, “ly” and [...]
I’ve been using ‘regular’ unleaded in Herman so far which is 95 RON, however, I read that the larger capacity TFSI engines are designed for higher octane ’super’ unleaded of 97 or 98 RON.
According to Audi forums, it would seem that the engine is quite capable of using a smaller RON but would be less [...]
