Clean

So, I did some research (Google is rubbish, by the way) and found a reputable drive-through car wash at the big Sainsbury’s in Greenwich. Bit of a trek, but everything else nearby looks highly dubious.

Went for a “number 2″ program (out of 3) as would seem to be a good first start.

Some observations:

  • It’s quite cheap at £4
  • You queue for ages.
  • You have to type in a code at the entrance to the washer, which is positioned so that if you can reach it from the car, you won’t be in line to actually drive in to the washer.
  • Apparently you have to turn the engine off, so no aircon, and obviously, you can’t open windows. Got very hot.
  • It didn’t remove all the squished bugs from the windscreen. Can I get a refund?

So not too traumatic first experience, and Herman is mostly clean. I think I’ll probably do it once a month from now on, or more often if any my neighbours’ cars are cleaner.

What about a hand car wash, or, shock horror, doing it yourself? :D

Hand car wash doesn’t look like much fun, and if you’re going to pay, you might as well sit back.

    Do it myself? see http://blog.soapyfrog.com/2008/05/08/dirty/

I leave mine at Tesco’s/M&S and someone does it while I shop .. bearing in mind I deal with horses, there is generally a lot of mud .. and it always looks like new when I come out .. shame they don’t do the inside too :(

Mine are all rendered by a PS3 or XBox 360 so the majority of the time they’re ultra shiny, and if they’re not then shineyness is buy a few button clicks away :D
