Leaving Facebook

I’ve always known that being a member of Facebook is a good way to leak personal information about yourself to those that can profit by it, so I’d removed things like full date-of-birth, information relating to family etc from my public profile.

A few months ago I cut it back even further, having noticed that even if the information is not public, you still pretty much give it away when you add a FB application, and there are so many of those - how many are scrupulous? Not to mention all the random people wanting to be your friend.

Leaving FB was not an option because the information was still kept - you simply suspend the account… until now.

Following the advice at El Reg, I have now deleted my FB account.

The response from FB:

We have deleted your profile information and removed your email address from our login database. Please let me know if you have further questions or concerns.

So that’s that then.
