Techie

A week or so ago, I was talking to an ex-colleague about being a techie. He asked me, on a scale of one to ten, how techie I thought I was now.

I was surprised to admit that I’m probably now only a six or seven, whereas a year ago, I was a ten (except on Fridays, when I was a nine point five – need to expend emotional effort on curry and beer).

So why is this? Well, my new job requires me to be far less techie. At least, I write less code these days.

I also spend far less time doing techie things at home, like learning new computer languages, frameworks and wotnot.

I’ve even spent less time playing video games.

On the flipside, I don’t feel like I’ve become more of anything else in the last year. Perhaps I’ve just slowed down? Relaxed more?

Still, six or seven is a bit too low for me on the techie scale, so one of my New Year resolutions (not that I believe in them being calendar-based) will be to push this up to an eight.
