iPhone day 2

Yesterday, I took the shiny new toy to work. There is WiFi in the office, but I don’t have access yet, so most of play was over GPRS/EDGE.

Again, some notes, in no particular order:

  • Everyone wanted to have a look.
  • I wasn’t the only one in the office with one (remember this is the first working day after it was released in the UK)
  • Moving between WiFi and EDGE and GPRS is seemless
  • Web browsing is obviously slower with EDGE, but useable, especially if visiting low-graphics sites. Not supporting Flash is probably a good thing here.
  • It’s a surprisingly good phone. Very clear. Much better than all my recent Sony Ericsson or Motorola phones
  • iPod features are available with double-top of home button - so you don’t need to unlock phone to change tracks etc. I discovered this by reading the manual - not obvious from just playing with the phone.
  • If you go out of radio range when downloading an email (eg going into a lift) the message looks corrupt for a while until it’s redownloaded/synced - there’s no obvious way to force this. In one instance, I had the iPhone tell me the email was in an unsupported format and I should tell the sender (tesco.com) to try a different one.
  • Every other phone looks soooo ancient
  • I pity Blackberry users even more

Yes, I had a friend telling me they were excited because they were getting their [crackberry] pearl today. I told them it was very corporate of them and how I’d stick with my iPhone :)
    Hopefully uberheadphones will arrive tomorrow.

Oh - and if, in your perusal of the manual, you come across how to access lyrics on the iPhone let me know. Doesn’t seem to be a way to do it and I’m way to techy to go look it up :D

I knew about that, but I don’t like the headphones that came with it (never liked the white earbud thingies) so I’m currently using bog standard headphones and awaiting the (iminent) arrival of uberheadphones mit mic switch.
