Wotsitallabout?

There are those that whinge endlessly about their lot - how life is treating them badly.

There must be others who listen to/read this and think: if only my problems were as trivial as yours….

There must be others still who feel badly for you because your problems seem so dreadful.

So all problems can be both trivial and dreadful at the same time.

I wonder if there are people who just are ok with things….

If there are such people, I would like to be one.

Today anyway. Tomorrow is another day.

My theory is that your largest problem, no matter how trivial it may seem to others, is still large to you. People cope in different ways. Things that would floor some people barely affect (outwardly at least) others. That said, I’ve known people who, on the face of things, are just ‘OK’ with things. Dig a little deeper and they’re not as happy as they might make out.

At the end of the day we’re social creatures. We cope by talking things through. The difference is who we talk things through with. Ourselves. Family. Loved ones. Friends. The world :)
One thing I have found though is that things are never really as bad as they seem. If you’re upset watch The Princess Bride, if you’re ill eat coco pops and if you’re generally just down with the world we’ll organise a curry. Actually, regardless of how you’re feeling, a curry is probably in order anyway :D

Yes, curry cures many ills, and introduces one or two unique ones :)

I know a depressive. Intellectually she was fully aware that she had a very nice life, better than 99.9% of humanity now alive (let alone ever existed); no real problems and much to be grateful for. Emotionally she was frequently a wreck. I assume, given here clearly rational exposition of her state that it was something chemical within her that was causing the depression. So what can you do?

There are many stories of healthy, wealthy people with everything going for them, committing suicide in a fit of despair. Personally, I’m a pretty happy person almost all the time. My observation is that the main difference between being consistently happy and not is having a definite achievable goal in your life - one that will take many years, maybe the rest of your life, and that will give you immense satisfaction if you achieve it. And some luck to not have to cope with the really terrible things that can happen.
