St. George’s day

Today (April 23) is St. George’s day.

St. George is the patron saint of England, like Patrick for Ireland, so should be a day of celebration. But it isn’t, which is a shame. Celebrating Englishness is usually frowned upon in England, which is also a shame.

Oh well.

Apparently, St George was likely a Roman soldier who protested against the Roman torture of Christians, and died because of it. He likely never came to England.

He was known for allegedly killing a dragon, although what he had against 6809-based computers, I’ll never know.

Today is also Shakespeare’s birthday, but that he also inconveniently died on the same day (presumably many years later) so that puts a dampener on celebrations.

This April 23 is also a Monday. But it’s spring and not raining yet. So not all bad.
