Almost bursting

Today I received an email from PissyPC World about my Wii. I was quite excited until I actually read it:
This is to confirm that we are starting to process your order. When we are able to confirm your order we will send you a third email, which will also confirm dispatch of the goods.
(my [...]

IntelliLang

I think I did mention that I’m a Java developer by trade, so here’s a Java development post…
My IDE of choice is IntelliJ IDEA, have a certain distaste for Eclipse and a growing fondness for Netbeans (come on version 6!).
It’s not often, however, that I see something genuinely useful or innovative in the IDE space, [...]

Duck survives two days in fridge

Duck survives two days in fridge
Hurrah!
Well, it made me happy

Windy Mill(in)er

Quite windy today.
We live on the 7th floor of an apartment building and have assorted plants in pots on the balcony. Several times today, I’ve had to go out and secure things against wails or railings and try to find wind shadow for the more delicate plants.
Looking around I see many other people doing the [...]

Jobs on Java on iPhone

At the Ultimate iPhone FAQs List, Part 2, Jobs apparently says:

Java’s not worth building in. Nobody uses Java anymore. It’s this big heavyweight ball and chain.

I wonder if he was referring specifically to the iPhone or more generally… and if he’d stopped taking his dried frog pills?

I want a Wii

Here in the UK, the Wii became available for pre-order at Amazon.co.uk on November 21th 2006.
Amazon said the store would be open for this at 9am, so I stayed a home, Amazon Wii page opened in Safari, mouse hovering over the ‘refresh’ button.
After about 15 mins of waiting, and no “Wii now available!” messages, I [...]

I don’t want an iPhone

Maybe the RDF is wearing off.
The iPhone needs to do a bit more basic stuff before it comes to the UK, in my opinion.

It needs to support MMS. OK, I very rarely use MMS, but just about every phone here has it so should be supported.

The camera only takes stills. Again, just about every camera [...]

I want an iPhone

The iPhone seems to have raised the bar on handheld (or even desktop) user interfaces very high; everything else looks very tired and dated by comparison, even the iPod and especially the Zune.
Even without the phone bit, it’s a top media player and mobile surfer.
Apparently not out in the UK until the autumn, but this [...]

Macworld Expo, Jobs’ keynote is nigh

It’s that silly time of year again where Mac fans around the world point their web browsers at transcripts of the key note and press the refresh button every 10 seconds.
For us in the UK it’s particularly fun as our day starts 8 hours before Steve’s, so it kicks off at 5pm and we have [...]

Open for business

It’s 2007 and I thought I’d start a blog!
I have another with ramblings on (only) PowerShell, but this one is for more general topics such as life, tech and Macs, and will occasionally sprout rants and raves, and quite possibly go off on a tangent.
I’m English and live in East London so that might put [...]
